7th Infantry Division
PriorService is proud to offer a large selection of items for the 7th Infantry Division. The “Hourglass Division” was first formed in 1917 in preparation for World War I. The division was quickly deployed to Europe as part of the American Expeditionary Force. The division saw service on the Eastern Front for over a year. After the German surrender, the division was returned to the United States in 1919 and deactivated in 1921. With war on the horizon the division was reactivated in 1940 at Fort Ord, California. The division first saw action when it made amphibious landings in the Aleutian Islands of Alaska to retake these islands that has been seized by Japanese Forces. The fighting in these islands was intense but the Japanese forces were quickly defeated. The 7th Infantry Division then saw combat in the Marshall Islands and in the Battle of the Philippines. Then on April 1, 1945 the 7th Infantry Division made amphibious landing on Okinawa. The fighting on Okinawa was savage and the division took heavy causalities. After the Japanese surrender on August 15, 1945 the division was sent to Korea to oversea the surrender of Japanese forces in Korea and the occupation of Korea. The division was moved to Japan in 1948 but was rushed back to Korea in 1950 with the North Korean invasion. The division participated in the Inchon Landings and was on the line for almost all of the Korean War. The division stayed in Korea until 1971 when it was returned to the United States.
